This
80+ year old Dutch Colonial on a large property had character
in its 900sf of living area, but just not enough room.
A substantial 2,400sf addition included a new attached
3-car garage, separate in-law suite, new master bedroom
suite with fireplace, new kitchen, great room and dining
room, as well as a new entry with wrap-around porch. The
old, deteriorated siding was replaced in full with new
fibercement siding, painted cedar trim and new insulated
windows. New oval windows provide compositional accents
as well as bring in welcome daylight. The original fireplace
was accented with limestone fillers.
Inside, the new kitchen is separated from the new great
room with a see-through arched stone fireplace. The kitchen's
range and hood are similarly canopied with a stone arch.
New Brazilian cherry flooring ties the entire composition
together. Even though the addition more than tripled the
original area of the home, the home's
character was carried
all the way through and even enhanced.
