After
decades of neglect City of Batavia condemned this former
train station building and hired
Lane Allen Architects to help with it’s renovation.
This renovation included the repair of deteriorating
masonry and window frames, window replacement, the opening
of upper storefront windows that had
been paneled over, and replacement of the signage band
and woodwork.(left facade)
The left facade was renovated by Lane Allen Architects
in 1997, with help from Batavia’s Facade
Grant program. The new storefront design reopened large
upper windows that had been paneled over.
This restored the storefront to it’s original proportions
and provides a lighter, more airy feel to the interior.
The renovation also included the repair and restoration
of deteriorating masonry and the restoration and
painting of rotting window frames. (right facade)
