This outstanding site, situated on a hilltop overlooking a bay, called for extensive windows to enjoy the views. The intersecting geometric forms and extensive use of wood combine to create a powerful contemporary design that has a warm and comfortable feel to it and blends well with it’s wooded site.

This original early 20th century gabled farmhouse style home was in need of expansion in order to suit the owners’ needs. A new great room expansion to the rear was designed along with a master bedroom suite above. Reconfiguration of the existing upstairs bedrooms and bath were required in order to allow for the new master. At the exterior, the important concern was that the addition relate well to the original home and that it not appear added onto. Existing side dormers were expaned to fit the new layout and revised hallway. A shed dormer with small punched windows aligns with the new gable dormer and allows light into the master bath.

This simple and attractive Cape Cod home located in West Dundee was built in the late 1920’s. A new addition to the rear of the home entailed a great room with central fireplace, large french doors to the rear yard, a new laundry and powder room on the first floor, and new large master bedroom on the second floor. A bright, open stairwell replaces what used to be a dark and narrow walk upstairs. The master bedroom contains a full walk-in closet, bathroom suite and walkout balcony reminiscent of a Southern Colonial. Interior trim continues the simple, elegant details of the original house. New hardwood flooring in Brazilian Cherry gives a rich, warm feel to the entire home.

This 80+ year old Dutch Colonial on a large property had character in its 900sf of living area, but just not enough room. A substantial 2,400sf addition included a new attached 3-car garage, separate in-law suite, new master bedroom suite with fireplace, new kitchen, great room and dining room, as well as a new entry with wrap-around porch. The old, deteriorated siding was replaced in full with new fibercement siding, painted cedar trim and new insulated windows. New oval windows provide compositional accents as well as bring in welcome daylight. The original fireplace was accented with limestone fillers. Inside, the new kitchen is separated from the new great room with a see-through arched stone fireplace. The kitchen’s range and hood are similarly canopied with a stone arch. New Brazilian cherry flooring ties the entire composition together. Even though the addition more than tripled the original area of the home, the home’s character was carried all the way through and even enhanced.

The renovation of this home entailed totally removing the roof of the existing 80s family room and garage and adding a second story loft space overlooking a new great room. An octagonal bumpout was created as well with large picture windows to overlook a gorgeous landscaped back yard. A new simulated slate roof was added to tie the old and new together and new siding was added to for a seamless blend. The owners added a stunning touch by purchasing an antique metal grate for the loft railing.
