EGYPTIAN THEATER

33,000 s.f. - Historic Preservation

Leaks and water infiltration had severely damaged many areas of the elaborate plasterwork in this exotic 1928 movie theater. Since the budget didn’t allow for a complete restoration, each damaged area was repaired in isolation and then blended into the surroundings.  The major challenge for the restoration contractors was to seamlessly match the varying plaster textures, the multi-colored “rag” finishes, and the correct amount of gloss.Later work included adding a sprinkler system  to the auditorium and lobby to bring it up to code, and then repairing the extensive damage to the decorative plaster and paint incurred by the installation.
