Michael Obrecht
Architectural Associate
About:
I spent 25 years as a designer and crafter of fine furniture, cabinetry, and architectural millwork. Most of my work over that time involved designing new work in period styles, adapted to fit in with historical contexts, but made functional for modern uses. I also spent 5 years as a fitter of yacht interiors, requiring very high levels of craftsmanship, precision, and coordination with other disciplines.
"After the housing bubble burst, I took advantage of the lull to go back to school and get an associates in architectural drafting. After working in various sectors of the architectural/ construction field, I settled into a department in a firm specializing in multifamily and hospitality projects. There, I was not only responsible for the creation and maintenance of prototype models of the buildings involved (these were for developers who needed to present a consistency of design, quality, and trade dress across their projects), but also for organizing and assembling the bid and permit packages, and shepherding them through the approval process.
